relationship therapy & couples counselling
Virtual or In-Person (Sault Ste Marie, ON)
As with all evidence-based psychotherapy, relationship therapy begins with a thorough assessment of your concerns. Typically, this process involves an initial joint session in which you and your partner(s) attend together, followed by individual assessment sessions for each partner. This process, while quite involved, is important so that each partner can explain and explore their point of view without fear of judgement. It also helps Brad gain a clear understanding of the situation and what might be needed in treatment.
Ongoing couples and relationship therapy occurs with all partners present in the counselling space, although from time to time individual sessions may occur when appropriate. This is a normal part of the process.
Many times, relational issues are rooted in connection difficulties or communication challenges. Couples and relationship therapy can help you and your partner(s) reconnect, develop intimacy, and communicate in a healthy way.
Common couples / relationship concerns include:
Unhealthy communication
Infidelity
Sexual concerns - pain, dysfunction, desire challenges
Lack of connection and closeness
Feeling “stuck”, uncertain, or distanced about the relationship
Abuse, intimate partner violence, controlling behaviour, or unhealthy conflict patterns
Frequent arguments or disagreements
Separation, divorce, break-up, reunification, and other relational transitions
Couples counselling and relationship therapy aren’t just for heterosexual, monogamous, or married relationships. Brad very commonly works with 2SLGBTQ+, non-monogamous (or “open”), and kinky relationships.
“in relationships, The problem isn’t usually difference. it’s distance.”
